Agile development practices can prove invaluable in preventing scope creep and add value by responding to change sooner than later. At my new job Im excited to see this process pan out in a very complex project involving more than 30 developers on the team. We use .Net 2005 team server and a number of other tools. So far the bottle neck seems to be the asp.net framework not lending itself to testability and complex code remaining in the UI layer. I will blog about my experiences here.

Sharepoint CAML Query (Include Subfolders)

After unsuccessfully trying to discover the caml to list/search for items in a document library,
here is what i found:

Remarks
SPQuery can only get the items in the current folder; SPQuery will not get the items in subfolders. This is the design feature in SharePoint Portal Server 2003. To

Sharepoint Restore and Doc Library Customizations

After running the Gui utility to restore sharepoint, I was getting this weird error: "no such field name" when I try to access the sharepoint object model. After a whole lot of mucking around I realized that we had customized our document library caml elements under
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\1033\XML
After copying the appropriate files, sharepoint works like a charm. I guess that should mean it doesnt as usual .

The Primary Microsoft Content Management Server Entry Point can not be found

I was trying to set up a toplevel CMS channel to be accessed as a root URL and half way I wanted to start over. So I deleted it. Next time I launch SCA I got:

"The Primary Microsoft Content Management Server Entry Point can not be found"

The steps needed were :
1. Recreate the website in IIS
2. Manually create the virtual directories NR (Points to
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Content Management Server\Server\IIS_NR

3. Recreate exeres, and ReadonlyRes inside this folder
4. To figure out the IIS Instance IDs, run adsutil.vbs ENUM_ALL /P
5. Stick this into your registry as described in the KB

Sharepoint Error: "cannot load content index"

I started this blog hoping to document what I found about running Sharepoint and CMS and connecting them with a pipeline. So today I got this error in the event log:

The gatherer files from the previous checkpoint cannot be restored, and this action cannot be completed. The gatherer will attempt to restore the files again. If the problem persists, restart the service, free system resources or verify that your hardware is working properly.

however it wont let you remove the index server, while the jobserver is pointing to the same site(in a single server topology). So you remove the job server first and then remove index server. And then everything is happy.
